Dr. Leonie Fian's activities will focus on research and teaching. Her thematic focus is on environmental psychology, particularly in the areas of risk perception, support for measures and scientific communication.
Three questions for Leonie:
What did you do before you started working for us?
I spent the last 3 years completing my PhD in Environmental Psychology at the University of Vienna under the supervision of Sabine Pahl and Ulrike Felt. I was involved in an interdisciplinary research platform looking at plastics, specifically microplastics. My focus was on societal perceptions of the risks as well as potential solutions and how to deal with scientific uncertainties and remaining knowledge gaps. I was also involved in various other research projects, e.g., on the links between nature and well-being or on societal perceptions of radical forms of activism.
What will your tasks be at the professorship?
My responsibilities include research and teaching activities. In teaching, I will support motivated students with their own research ideas and projects, and in research, I look forward to working with our young team to explore new and exciting directions in the field of inter- and transdisciplinary environmental sciences.
What is your favorite place in Graz?
I’m still a newcomer in Graz and in the process of figuring that out. But you’ll probably find me somewhere along the Murpromenade, in the Newton bouldering hall or on the hunt for good vegan food.
